  4. A symptom of our politically correct times enthronement of the individual's experience and feelings as as the sole means of judging good and bad

  5. Could it be that those in the political system, for want of the vision and leadership they imagine that they should possess, have been intimidated by the press into appealing to the public by offering "choice" and thus bypassing, or short circuiting, the system of mediation the journalism, in all its forms, is supposed to provide. This sort of vox appeal for approval in the form of choice has been the watchword for so many government initiatives from education to social housing and beyond. But the choices on offer are always limited and generally only accessible to those parts of society who will be able to grab the best parts for themselves. So instead of an equitable and fair distribution of limited resources, those parts of society who would be most effective in disrupting the status quo have in effect been bribed by the offer a privileged position in competition for resources. In this was the democratic process is being supplanted by an unbalanced struggle for resources masquerading as choice.
